FIJI Water Foundation Brings Care and Connection to Communities in Navosa

FWF carried out a multi-site outreach initiative across Navosa, reinforcing its commitment to clean water access, health equity, education, and sustainable livelihoods.

For many families in Navosa, access to healthcare, training, and essential services requires significant time and travel. These barriers—common in remote regions of Fiji—are exactly where the FIJI Water Foundation (FWF) focuses its work: bringing care closer to home, strengthening local systems, and investing in long-term community well-being.

At the end of 2025, FWF carried out a multi-site outreach initiative across Navosa, reinforcing its commitment to clean water access, health equity, education, and sustainable livelihoods. Through coordinated efforts spanning healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure, FWF partnered with trusted local organizations to deliver tangible support for families, farmers, and frontline service providers.

Upgrading Essential Facilities at Navosa Sub-Divisional Hospital

As part of our FIJI Water Veitokani program (formerly known as Wonderful Neighbour), a team of 25 staff from the FIJI Water Foundation, Transam Fiji and Neptune Pacific Nadi joined forces to revamp the Navosa Sub-Divisional Hospital. Staff conducted a needs assessment highlighting critical areas where the team could make a lasting impact, ranging from basic infrastructure to essential equipment.

Volunteers carried out repairs and upgrades to the hospital’s guest house, including door repairs, lock installations, sink restorations, and the installation of six new clotheslines.

These upgrades will ensure a positive and comfortable experience for families who travel long distances to support their loved ones during their hospital stay.

Expanding Access to Health Services in Navosa

In addition to infrastructure improvements, FWF helped bring essential health services directly to the community through its 2025 Community Grant partners: ADRA Fiji, Cure Kids Fiji, Fred Hollows Foundation NZ, and Diabetes Fiji.

Together, these partners provided health screenings and counselling to residents, offering checks for non-communicable diseases, eye and heart screenings, and preventative health guidance. By reducing barriers to early detection and care, the initiative helped families gain critical insights into their health and connect with follow-up services.

Empowering Farmers for a Sustainable Future

Recognizing that community well-being is closely tied to economic stability, the FIJI Water Foundation also invested in training for farmers and capacity-building. More than 60 farmers from Ra, Ba, Vanua Levu, and Navosa participated in a two-day, in-person training on the safe and responsible use of agricultural chemicals. Delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji, Rise Beyond the Reef, and the FIJI Water Foundation, the training strengthened sustainable farming practices, improved technical skills, and supported environmental stewardship.

The program also reinforces FWF's commitment to local food systems through Bula Bags, FIJI Water’s employee fresh produce program that sources locally grown fruits and vegetables, supporting farmers while ensuring access to high-quality produce for FIJI Water employees.

Creating Lasting Impact

These initiatives demonstrate the FWF’s focus on delivering tangible support to remote communities such as those in Navosa. By working hand in hand with local partners, farmers, and service providers, FWF helps improve healthcare access, enhance agricultural practices, and support education - leaving a positive, lasting impact on the people and communities it serves.
